After completing 2 long distance bike rides abroad, 600km (From St Petersburg to Moscow, Russia) and 500km (across the Andes in Ecuador), it seemed wrong that I had not tried a similar long distance bike ride in Britain.  Now that I am fully retired, in June, 2011, I am going to attempt riding my bike from Lands End to John O’Groats in 15 cycling days, and at the same time, raise money, via sponsorship, for Macmillan Cancer Support.  The cycling distance is approximately 1700km, considerably more than other rides I have carried out and I am training hard, but also I am getting more and more concerned and nervous, the closer the starting date gets! 

Unfortunately, many of us will be affected in some way by cancer, either suffering from this dreadful disease ourselves or having a close family member suffering.  Macmillan Cancer Support help both the sufferer and their family with all aspects of this terrible disease and Macmillan rely on donations to be able to carry out their necessary work.

To encourage me in my efforts, it would be great if you could sponsor me for the ride; I have no particular target in mind, but please dig deep as the more I can raise, the better.
