Difficulties are faced by Cri Du Chat sufferers as babies, right through to adulthood. A distinct cat like cry is noted as a baby, thus giving the French name to the syndrome. Regular illness due to a low immune system resulting in regular periods of coughs, colds and chest infections which seem to either be constant or on a weekly basis. Cri Du Chat sufferers also have problems meeting their developmental mile stones and can become frustrated. Amazingly no matter how poorly or frustrated they become their smile, laugh, and little characters shine, bringing so much joy to those around them. 

 

As some of you may be aware, my son Alfred suffers from this rare condition. Times have been tough, where as parents we have been wrought with worry on many occasions, especially on his stays in hospital. Getting us through this though, has been the most amazing and loving smile I have ever seen, Alfred's

 

Throughout our journey so far, we have come across several local doctors unaware of Cri Du Chat syndrome. My aim is to help raise awareness of the Cri Du Chat syndrome within the medical profession and to also raise funds to help research the condition further thus helping families of those affected to understand the condition and what they may face as a family.
