Story
My daughter woke up one morning nearly 2 years ago now. she was getting ready for school when she had a excruciating pain her back and she never walked again. Ellie had a spinal stroke which effected the spinal cord and she is now paraplegic from T7 downwards.
Spinal injury can be caused by a multitude of causes and the results in Ellies case was instant and non reversible. There was no warning signs and currently no treatment other than learning to live with this life changing injury which has devastated our family and changed the life's of us all.
Despite this, Ellie has continued to look forward and has tackled each challenge presented head on. She has justed completely her A levels despite missing 7 months of education in rehab and is now looking at the next steps in life. We all live in hope that one day with all the medical advances that one day the outlook for spinal injury may improve and maybe just maybe she will be able to walk a few steps again 💓
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for our research. Because of the efforts of our supporters, we have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field.
