We help the hospital offer a better future to seriously ill children across the UK

Story

Amelia was born with Craniosynosthosis, a birth defect in which the bones in a baby's skull join together before the baby's brain is fully developed.  As the brain grows and develops this can lead to increased pressure on the brain and can cause problems with sight, hearing, and developmental delays.  Severe cases can cause cognitive impairment, seizures and in rare instances, can be fatal.

At just 3 months old, Amelia had her first outpatient appontment at Great Ormond Street Hospital.  As you can imagine, we were petrified with many different scenarios going around in our heads.  However, the hospital staff were fantastic. They explained everything to us in a way in which we could understand and reassured us.

We went through 6 years of regular check ups with no issues but then, at a routine appointment in October of 2022, one of Amelia's eye test showed signs of increased intercranial pressure so it was agreed she would be reviewed 6 months later.  In April 2023, the same test showed further deterioration and after a CT scan the hospital advised us that Amelia would need a major operation on her skull to make more room for her brain develop.

So on the 19th June,  Amelia underwent surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.  It was the hardest, toughest couple of days but knowing that she was in the care of the experienced, expert team was reassuring.

We want to raise funds for this fantastic hospital, to say thank you for looking after our precious girl and supporting us at a very difficult time. We will forever be grateful.
