Story

Having been lucky (?!) to secure a ballot place for this year’s London Marathon, I decided I’d use the opportunity to try to raise some vital funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Way back in 2000/2001 I was a patient of the Air Ambulance, having had a nasty fall from a horse.  I was airlifted to West Suffolk Hospital, it took about 8 minutes!! Fortunately, I hadn’t broken anything.  However, if I’d had any serious injuries, the time saved by being flown would have made a huge difference to my outcome.

So running the marathon is giving me the chance to give something back.

East Anglian Air Ambulance receives no regular government funding and relies entirely on the support of the community. The crews are tasked an average of 8 times a day across the two bases, with each mission costing in the region of £3,500. They can reach anywhere in the region within 25 minutes when every second can make the difference to a patient in their time of need.
