Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have set (and had set for me) three challenges for 2010, they are;
1/ To complete the Parish Walk in under 20 hours - my previous best time was just under 24...
2/ To run the Ramsey Marathon in August - never run more than a few metres before.
3/ To climb Kilimajaro in October
It's going to be hard work training for it all, but hey, if it was that easy it wouldn't be a challenge. ALL money raised is going to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, I'm covering costs myself and begging / borrowing the gear required for the climb, so please give whatever you can please!
Dear Diary:
1.00pm: Tuesday, Day 1 of training - thankyou to the Livingwell Health Club in Douglas who are giving me use of their extremely extensive facilities. http://www.livingwell.com/UK/ISLEOFMAN/LivingWell-Isle-of-Man.htm
Kristy is my personal trainer and seems scared by my current lifestyle of beer and cigs. After a weigh in and body mass checkover, I have a lot of weight - 14 stone - and much body mass (read lard). I want to cry. She has put together an intensive training programme which will hurt I think. I want to cry again.
2.00pm: I am close to tears. Again. Rowing, jogging, cycling - I used to cycle everywhere, how can I be trembling after just 15 minutes on one?? Cross trainer and something else. After a bit of a sit down and the most delicious glass of water I've ever experienced I feel fantastic. Kristy says I did ok. I think she may be trouble. I will see her again in two days time, after I do a ten mile walk tomorrow.
Weds: It hurts. Everything hurts. Did a walk but don't remember much about it. Sore feet.
Stay tuned. I will not be beaten.
LATEST NEWS!
After failing to complete the Parish Walk on the day (heatstroke at 32 miles) - I started again and this time we did the distance! A big debt of gratitude to Jock, Sean and Vinnie who walked the final 35 miles with me - you madmen.
Next Challenge - the marathon - August 8th. Best start training then.
