I have decided to take part in W4CR in memory of Matthew Walklin and in honour of his parents Mick and Lorraine who provided me with much love and support during my time at Hammersmith hospital, where both Matthew and my mother received a stem cell transplant.

Although I have only known The Walklins for a short amount of time I do feel extremely privileged and honoured to have been involved in their life. They are a family who show the utmost care, love and affection to all they meet, and unsurprisingly it is reflected in the wealth and quality of friends and family they have surrounding them.

For those not fortunate enough to have met Matt, believe me when I say, he was truly an inspiration to all. He seized every moment and opportunity, and saw every hurdle as positive and purposeful, even his cancer was seen as a ‘journey’ rather than a ‘battle’.

Some of the money being raised will be donated to the Karen Morris Memorial Trust. The KMMT’s main aim is to provide accommodation for leukaemia patients and their relatives which would otherwise be unavailable. This is a charity close to my heart as they provided me with a safe place to stay whilst at Hammersmith hospital. This meant I could focus on helping my mother through her treatment and also gave my mother peace of mind. There will be many more families, for years to come, in need of a place to stay, so please help make their journey that little bit easier by being generous and sponsoring me.
