Story

In 2016 I finally got my act together and started my fitness journey to lose weight. So many people have helped and supported me along the way, I now feel it’s about time I did something to give back. In 2010 I lost one of my life long childhood friends, Jade to leukaemia. Cure leukaemia helped with some of Jade’s treatments, but sadly Jade was taken away from us way too soon, by doing this challenge I hope to raise money to help change the lives of other young people similar to Jade.

Jade was one of the toughest and bravest people I know, had been my big sister and always looked out for me from the day I was born. Along with Jade’s twin sister Demi, the three of us as children would create our own little worlds and really live in the moment. Growing up together we have laughed, cried, argued, supported, held each other up and been on so many adventures together creating a million and one great memories, giving me one the best childhood anyone could ever have. I am sorry Jade you aren’t with us now, learning how to live in this adult world and sharing all the weird and crazy moments together, but you will forever be one of my greatest motivations to live each day to the fullest and to never give up!

When I was finally ready to lose weight I joined Firewalker martial arts gym, a place where the word family is taken and demonstrated with all great seriousness and every person is made to feel they belong here. Firewalker has become a second home to me, it has given me a love and passion for Maui Thai Boxing, which I can’t now ever imagine myself not doing and in essence has given me a mind set to live a healthy life style to be able to always keep myself active. Most importantly, Firewalker has given me the confidence and an attitude to push myself beyond all myself built limits. Every single time I enter the gym and take part in a class, there are always numerous people who shout me out, won’t let me stop, push me to go even further than I have before and in those moments I feel invincible. They all know who they are and words can’t describe how greatful I am to each and everyone of them because they have all literally helped change my life.

Running was always something I said I would never and could never do and still to this day I don’t believe I can actually run LOL. I managed to somehow find, some new great friends who gave me the courage to go out and give it ago, and now unfortunately for me, I don’t think they will ever let me stop running. At first I found it hard to get going, felt so far behind everyone else and just couldn’t in the slightest keep up, or even manage to continually run for half a mile. But one person in particular wouldn’t let me quit and persevered with me, and now we are both booked to run 13 half Marathons in 13 months! I know that to complete this challenge I need to be both physically and mentally strong, but I am excited to put in the hard work and cannot wait to see what we will achieve after our final face.

So far we are booked to do:

Birmingham Half Marathon - 14th October 2018 COMPLETED
