Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am a staff Nurse within the A&E department at Addenbrooke's hospital. My nan was diagnosed with Parkinson's and had the illness for 20years before she died from it 2012. At the time, I knew little about Parkinson's but I wanted to do my bit to contribute towards research and treatment towards finding a cure.

Parkinson's is like a boa constrictor. It slowly suffocates , sapping all the enjoyment of life from 7-10 million people worldwide affected by it. Despite this, life expectancy with Parkinson's has risen dramatically in recent years meaning people live longer with the condition. This in turn places significantly greater financial strain on society in terms of caring for people with Parkinson's. To address this, Parkinson's must be positioned as a research priority. I am therefore passionate about raising money to go towards those affected and to develop research and treatments to help towards finding a cure. I know that the money I raise will directly fund research projects and treatments for Parkinson's at Addenbrooke's.

I decided on hiking Mount Kilimanjaro- Africa's highest summit at 5,895metres tall. It's the tallest free- standing mountain in the world because I thought I should attempt something personally challenging, like my nan endured 20 years challenging Parkinson's.  I will be participating in this challenge between the 9th-18th October 2014. ACT- (Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust) Is a significant charity to be raising money for and I hope it puts us a step closer to finding that cure, benefiting those patients living with the condition and giving them the best possible care.

I am also participating in the Action For Heroes Abseil 2014, supporting research and treatment for Parkinson's at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
