I am really excited to be running the Great North Run on September the 11th with my bestest bud Martha!! Currently the 21.1 km seems more than a little daunting having spent the last 3 weeks primarily eating fruit tarts in France... 

I will be running for Alopecia UK, a charity which offers valuable support and advice for anyone who experiences hair loss. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease, by which an individual's immune system attacks their own body, resulting in partial or total hair loss. This can be triggered by stress and can therefore effect anyone. For so many people - definately me included - hair makes up such a massive part of how we define ourselves and so adjusting to a change in appearance can bring massive emotional challenges  and drastically lower confidence. 

Alopecia is a disease close to my heart; I experienced hair loss caused by stress a few years ago. I was extremely self conscious of this and found myself continually stressing over whether it would get worse and noticeable. For me, I was so thankful my hair quickly grew back but the worry alopecia may return remains with me. My beautiful Mummy has alopecia totalis and unfortunately her hair will never grow back. I know how much she has struggled with this and will continue to do so, loosing your hair has such a huge impact on your perception of yourself which often remains hidden to the outside world. 

I am running for my Mummy and everyone who currently or may suffer from alopecia in the future. Please help me raise as much as I can to support this fantastic charity, without which there would be virtually no support for those with hair loss.
