Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

127 mile Kayaking challenge taken on by Daryl and Steve Smith, to Help raise money to increase awareness for a rare condition called Cryoglobulinemia starting on the 6th August 2018 over 5 days.

Cryoglobulinemia means 'cold antibody in the blood' and is the presence of abnormal antibodies that are soluble in the blood at body temperature but which precipitate out of the blood at lower temperatures in the laboratory. These antibodies are often present in patients with a wide variety of pre-existing diseases such as hepatitis C virus infection, autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or Sjögren's Syndrome or cancers such as lymphoma or multiple myeloma.

Sadly we lost our dad who was only 57 at the end of 2017 who suffered from this condition. It seems to us and our family that this rare condition is neither fully understood nor easy to explain and certainly not easy to live with. Our dad was never one to complain or give up but knowing he had this condition was hard for him to deal with.

We would like to raise as much money and awareness as we can for the charity working on both research and support for this rare condition. If you can help us raise money for this charity please donate.  Every penny will
make a difference.
