Story

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

As a teacher in Welshpool, I have seen first hand the positive impact of raising awareness of this horrible disease. As a school, we are actively involved in the work of Dementia Friends Welshpool, regularly visiting Care Homes and their residents, fundraising and raising awareness of the disease.

In April 2023, I entered my first London Marathon, raising over £4,000 for a local charity. The feeling of crossing the finish line along with the gratitude and joy shown by the charity after sharing the total I have raised has made me hungry to achieve more.

It's a fact that 1 in 3 lives will one day change forever because of dementia. Together with the work of our school, Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School, Dementia Friends Welshpool and fundraising through my participation at the London Marathon 2024, I want to help fund vital research and care and support the Alzheimer's Society to invest in ground-breaking research into better ways of treating people with dementia as well as provide critical support to people throughout their experiences with disease.
