Story

OK, so it's done :)  I made it round in one piece, although a little behind Mo - 15119 places behind to be exact! (although there were 57000 runners, so am telling myself that's OK). Watch out next year Mo!

The Great North Run is a very emotional day at the best of times but this year my thoughts were very much with Maddies' family who I thank for allowing me to do this, it was an absolute honour to run for Maddie xxx

I am very grateful to all you lovely people who have donated and all who have already shared my page. It will stay open for some time so IT'S NOT TOO LATE to help in our quest for INCREASING AWARENESS about ANAPHYLAXIS and hopefully saving lives.  Every parent should be aware, I certainly wasn't!

Thank you  muchly xxxx

It’s that time of year again...and yes, I am leaving it very late!!  I will be one of those 56,000 meandering their way from Newcastle to Gateshead once again on 7th September.  This year, I am truly honoured but deeply saddened, to be running in memory of Madeleine Maria Lineham, who, at the age of just 10 years and 10 months, tragically passed away very suddenly in January this year.

Maddie suffered an Anaphylactic Shock.  She did not suffer from Anaphylaxis but Maddie was Asthmatic and had minor allergies.  She tried a crumb of something new to her containing four natural ingredients to which she had not been allergic previously and had eaten before.  She had an immediate reaction with her lips tingling and strong abdominal pain.  The family sought immediate medical help but Maddie passed away within the hour.

The trigger to Maddie’s Anaphylactic Shock has yet to be established but she was not believed by the medical profession to be at risk and therefore was never prescribed an EpiPen.  Through research the family now believe that children who suffer from Asthma and who have allergies are at risk of suddenly developing a life threatening allergy.

The Anaphylaxis Campaign aims to create a safe environment for all people with allergies by educating and raising awareness within the food industry, schools, colleges and with health professionals.  Their focus is on medical facts, food labelling, risk reduction and allergen management.   They also provide support through a programme of workshops for parents of allergic children.

I can’t, for a moment begin to imagine what Maddie’s family are going through every minute of each day; a tragic loss at such an early age.  They are determined that her memory will live on and Maddie’s father, Neil Lineham, will be running in the 2015 London Marathon.  I want to be involved in this with the thought that, for every additional person with whom this information is shared, awareness is raised and a child’s life could just be saved.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and will go directly to the Anaphylaxis Campaign.   You can learn more about the charity at http://www.anaphylaxis.org.uk  Even if you do not feel you could donate you would be helping, and who knows could save a life, by sharing this page as widely as possible.
