Story

About us

We are taking part in the Edinburgh marathon Hairy Haggis team relay on Sunday 23rd March 2010. Fiona and Lisa will be running the 2 shortest legs (around 5 miles each) and Alex and Kevin will be running the 2 longer legs (8 miles each). We are hoping to have lots of fun and hopefully put in a good time for our team, whilst raising some money for a very special and worthwhile cause!

The charity

We've chosen to donate our sponsors to Pink MacKenzie in aid of The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. (www.facebook.com/pages/Pink-Mackenzie/115549118096)
Pink Mackenzie is for an Angel of Courage, Laura Mackenzie. Laura fought a long and hard battle with Lung cancer and passed away July 15th 2008, age 24. Duncan, Lindsay and Rich (Laura’s parents and fiance) started Pink Mackenzie to carry on the lung cancer awareness which Laura so bravely began. Laura’s mum also lost her battle to lung cancer when Laura was 6 (both non smokers) which made her all the more determined. Laura fought hard to try and beat lung cancer and dedicated lots of her time to promoting awareness of the symptoms and signs….always putting others before herself so this came as no surprise! This gave her the strength and positivity to continue her fight, she was determined not to be another statistic. Laura is a cousin to Kevin and Fiona who along with her family and friends are remembering her in a very worthwhile way by raising money for Roy Castle through Pink MacKenzie in various ways.

What will my donation be used for?

The Roy Castle charity is wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer - funding unique research into the early detection of lung cancer, health promotion work and lung cancer patient care. Lung cancer claims more lives than any other cancer.
