Story

10k walk here I come - Marie Curie Cancer Care Walk 10 Sissinghurst Castle 28th July 2012!

Many of you will not know that I have a rare brain disorder called Arnold Chiari Malformation type II with which I suffer chronic pain and one of things affected is my ability to stand or walk for long periods of time, so this is a challenge I want to push myself to do in order to raise valuable funds for something so important.

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/chiari/detail_chiari.htm

My Grandma was the best Grandma you could ask for, from a young age I never really thought of her as an 'older' person as her and my granddad were always on holidays, cruises, day trips....you name it they did it!  They retired to Hastings and they had more of a socila life than I did as a young 20-something woman!!  My Grandad sadly passed away in 2005 from asbestos related cancer where he was lucky enough to have the services of both Macmillan and Marie Curie Nurses and went peacefully in his own bed.  My Nana eventually moved back to the family town of Sittingbourne but sadly passed away after a battle with cancer last year.

If it wasn't for Marie Curie and the work they do into promoting end of life care these situations simply wouldn't be possible and people would be forced into hospitals or hospices which may not be their preference.  Although my Nan didn't have a Marie Curie nurse in the end as she went very quickly she was supported by the local hospice where some of our nurses are based.

There are many, many charities especially cancer charities out there that are all worthwhile but end of life care is far behind all the rest.....we might not like to talk about it but it is inevitable for all of us and we will all be affected by cancer or terminal illness by friend or family at some point in our lives!  Please, please support me in this activity for my Nan & Grandad and also the difficulty it will provide to me with my crazy brain condition!  10k is a HUGE deal for me but everyone it will help will be worth it!

£20 provides just 1 hour of nursing care to a terminally ill patient in their own home so please, please give generously!
