Story

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you’re visiting our page. Firstly I’d like to share a beautiful story with a cruel and sudden ending.

This page is set up to help fund vital research into a disorder that took our beautiful golden retriever, Maisy. We had three and a half years of pure joy and companionship with Maisy. On the 2nd February 2022 we were robbed of a gorgeous free spirit that captured the hearts of everyone she met. Prior to her passing she was unwell but seemed fine within herself up until the day before her passing. Maisy went from a bouncy, fun loving dog to someone that couldn’t stand up in her final hours. We had no reason to be concerned as the vets told us it was simply a flu type bug going around and it explained her symptoms. We wasn’t to know what was happening inside of her, we just couldn't imagine what caused her to fall ill so quickly. On the day of her passing we received the dreaded phone call that shattered all of our hearts in just moments. We were told that even if Maisy had a blood transfusion in the next 30 minutes from a similar breed of dog that it still wouldn’t save her. The one heart wrecking moment of the phone call was when the vet told my husband that even if she had a pot of gold there would be no saving Maisy. Shortly after the phone call, Maisy was put to sleep, out of the terrible pain she was in. The next day we were told of the diagnosis and it turned out that Maisy had developed, or was born with auto immune thrombocytopenia which left her with no platelets in her blood to fight any infection she may of had. The vet told us that the damage to her organs is mostly seen in horrific car crashes involving dogs. How do you comprehend such a cruel disorder that can take our Maisy away and showed us no signs prior to her death?

This is why we are fundraising for AITP and why it’s so vital to start research into this blood disorder that takes many victims a year. Please help us with funding and please keep Maisy in your hearts and help us spread awareness and hope for the beauty within the dog world.

Thank you for reading and I hope to see the research started as soon as possible. X
