Story

We are raising money on this page and Jonathan's page ( click on link In Memory of Darren )to help find a cure for CJD (Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease) in memory of our colleague and friend Darren who we tragically lost to the sporadic version of the disease on October 27th 2020 following a diagnosis just two weeks earlier.

CJD is a rare and fatal condition that affects the brain , it is caused by an abnormal infectious protein called a prion , the prions accumulate at high levels in the brain and cause irreversible damage to nerve cells.

The effects of the prion accumulation is very rapid, only 2 months prior to his passing, Darren was cycling 70 plus miles around County Durham and the Yorkshire Dales, his passing was a massive loss to us all and continues to be so, most of us taking part in the ride knew him for 20+ years .

Darren took part in two C2C rides in the past few years over two days and would have absolutely hated the idea of doing the ride in one day, so what better way to honour his memory than to take on the challenge of doing just that.

Costs of the challenge are being covered by Vest Construction , riders confirmed so far are -

  • Gavin Vest + 1 - Vest Construction
  • Lynsey Brough - Vest Construction
  • Neil Laverick - Vest Construction
  • Neale Torr - Vest Construction
  • Gary Atkinson - Vest Construction
  • Gordon Panicca - Organiser
  • Johnathan Braunton - Taplanes Showers
  • John Fitzpatrick + 1 - Fitzpatrick Glaziers

Planned route for Saturday 5th June 2021 -

Please help support  us on our journey and to find a cure for CJD. There is currently no cure but every day scientists and doctors are getting closer to finding a treatment. We aim to raise funds to support the use of an antibody drug developed for the treatment of patients with CJD. The first patient was treated at UCLH in October 2018.

Thank you for your support!
