Story

Final Update: We had a brilliant day. 60,000 runners making it the largest Great North Run ever, made extra special by the dedication of this year's run to the memory of the Queen. A very special day that I am sure all of us will remember for a long time.

Team radiology runners did very well with Ben Hirst finishing in only 1h 25mins followed by Liam (1h 42m). Aimee was third with an impressive finish time of 2h 5m. I have updated everyone's time towards the bottom of this page. A big thank you to everyone of our runners - you are all brilliant. (I have uploaded all the pictures I received so please do look through the gallery at the top of this page.)

Now to the fund raising: Prior to starting our hope was to raise around £7,000, but I thought we should be more ambitious and was going to go with £15,000 as the target but Raj wanted it higher so we went with £20,000!! After a slow start we were soon moving with Leanne's bake sale followed by Debi's impressive raffle/tombola. Thank you very much to both you. Soon after the MYHC team were really supporting us with regular fund raisers in the PGH atrium - big thank you to Sam, Callum, Jemima and Matt. But of course the biggest star goes to Jane McDonald - you have more than kept your promise by more than doubling the total - really grateful for your generosity.

Team Radiology definitely smashed it - a big thank you everyone that ran, donated, fund raised and organised. This impressive result would not have been possible without all of you. (Now who's up for it next year?!!!)

Update 1: UK tax payers please remember to tick gift aid - there is no extra cost or paperwork for you. (Also any contribution to just giving is optional - for all).

Update 2: We had an amazing visit by Jane McDonald on 15th August. So friendly- talked to all the runners providing lots of encouragement and demonstrated immense generosity by offering to match what ever we raise pound for pound. Please pass on my grateful thanks to her, her team and all her wonderful fans who are supporting us.

Welcome to Team Radiology’s Great North Run 2022 JustGiving page. We're thrilled to be supporting MY Hospitals Charity, the charitable arm of The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust -the trust provides compassionate & expert care for over half a million people every year, in their homes, in the community and across our three hospital sites at Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields (Wakefield) in Yorkshire.

Over the last three years, MY Hospitals Charity has raised over  £1,000,000 and spent just under £2,000,000 on numerous projects to improve the care & experience for our patients and staff including:

  •  Refurbishment of the Staff ICU Balcony. Our Intensive Care Team at Pinderfields Hospital are now able to enjoy their break in a private and comfortable space (funded in partnership with NHS Charities Together. MY Hospitals Charity)
  • Upgrade Ultrasound Simulators. To provide training in advanced care techniques for staff resulting faster and more precise bed side diagnosis and treatment.
  •  Portable DVD players for our Children's Department which serve as a distraction technique for our young patients being treated by our amazing staff.

MY Hospitals Charity has a long history of participating in the Great North Run. The Great North Run is the largest half marathon event in the world and one of the largest mass participation events in the UK. It occurs annually in Newcastle – Sunday 11th September this year; to be broadcast by the BBC. Team Radiology are taking on the challenge this year in support of the upcoming MY MRI Appeal with 24
runners taking part in the iconic race.

We have set an ambitious target of £20,000, and we need everyone’s help to smash it. Please do support us in any way that you are able, in particular please spread the word – tell all your family, friends, work colleagues, all your social media contacts, your great aunt, your cat/dog –yes literally anyone you can think of.

The monies raised this year will go towards funding a state of the art 3 Tesla MRI Scanner to replace the current 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner at Pinderfields Hospital. The trust has recently installed new CT and MR scanners in Dewsbury and Pontefract Hospitals and has approved a new Radiology Suite at Pinderfields Hospital. These scanner play a crucial role in the management of our patients, particularly those with cancer, heart disease, and strokes. These new scanners are not only faster but also capable of advanced imaging which is essential for scanning emergency and trauma patients in addition the MRI scanner enhances care of our young patients by avoiding ionising radiation.

Advanced scanning capabilities will also allow us to take part in cutting edge research.
