This year, 2013, my good friend Chris' son Alex should have been celebrating his 5th Birthday.  Alex was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer, in June 2010.  Despite the bravest of battles, Alex died, aged 4, in September 2012.

Inspired by his life, Chris has resolved to run, hike, cycle and kayak 500km around Scotland in a series of events before Alex's Birthday (16 September).

He has chosen Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike on 4-5 May 2013 as one of his challenge events.  Our '500 for Alex' team of 4: Chris Noble, James McMorrow, Paul Turner and myself aim to cycle 31 miles and hike 41 miles between Fort William and Inverness in this 24 hour team challenge.
