Story

My Dad would often tell me that he had always wanted to cycle to the seaside. As time went on we woukd talk and dream that one day we would do it together.

When I told him that I was planning on biking to Barmouth as a random ride he couldnt believe it, anyone that knows the route to Barmouth knows it’s not an easy route.

Last July we were told he had lung cancer. It came as you can imagine as a massive shock to be told that he would only have 12 months left to live. Then in reality after we were told about him having the illness he only lived less than three months.

All plans, dreams and the life we knew were changed forever. When he became seriously ill nobody, not me, not even the doctors or the hospital could get his medication under control. So he was referred to St Richards Hospice.

Immediately they cared for him better than any of us ever could. From the moment we arrived they helped Dad get his medication under control so that the pain and sickness wasn’t noticeable. Unfortunately Dad never left the hospice but right up until his final moments and after they cared-not only him but for me and my sister as well.

Because Barmouth was a place where we had spent many years of happy family holidays and because Dad always dreamed of cycling to the seaside, I am planning on cycling roughly a 100 miles from Cleobury Mortimer  to a campsite that we used to stay at by the sea near Barmouth

On the 31st of July last year my life was changed forever when dad phoned me to tell me he had the disease, so exactly a year from that on the 31/07/21 I am planning on cycling it for him.

will always be forever grateful for the care St. Richards Hospice provided for my Dad so I am trying to raise money for them. St Richard’s Hospice receives 78% of its funding through donations from generous people like us.

They care for people with a serious progressive illness that include cancer and neurological, respiratory, cardiac and renal conditions. Their aim is to improve patients’ quality of life, helping them to live as fully as they can to the end of their lives, however long that may be. The care is unique to each individual – whatever their physical, emotional or spiritual needs.

If you can give anything, small or large I would be so appreciative. I am hoping to raise a minimum of £500 for the hospice and honestly your money is going to such a great cause.

Thank you so much to all my friends and family who have supported me over the past year.
