Story

Jacob was just 4 months old when he was diagnosed with Leukaemia. He needed treatment with chemotherapy, endless blood transfusions and ultimately a bone marrow transplant from his big brother. Jacob is now 15 months old (8 months post transplant) and is doing great. We (Jacobs Dad and Friends) are taking on the challenge of a 50 mile ultra marathon in the hills of the Lake District to raise money for the team that fought so hard for Jacob and encourage as many people as possible to give blood and join the bone marrow register.

The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital provides life saving treatment for children suffering from cancer and other diseases. It treats children from all over the United Kingdom and desperately needs to expand to provide this life saving treatment to more children. The money raised by this event will go towards building an extra patient room on the BMTU. We will never be able to truly show how grateful we are to the BMTU for everything they did for Jacob but we can give a little back by raising as much money as possible!!

During Jacobs illness he required over 30 blood transfusions and over 20 platelet transfusions. Jacob was lucky that his older brother was a perfect match for a bone marrow transplant. Other children as not as lucky and rely on bone marrow registries. There are two bone marrow registries - Anthony Nolan up to the age of 30 & the national bone marrow register up the age of 40. Anyone can sign up to the national registry at the time of giving blood. Please consider giving blood and joining a bone marrow registry and help save a life.
