As most of you are aware, our darling son Benjamin is currently undergoing treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) As well as the huge amount of support from you guys, our friends and family, all of the staff at the Emily Kent Unit have been amazing. The unit operates under the Paediatric Oncology Trust Fund and is part of the Cheltenham and Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust. It is at the Emily Kent Unit where the fantastic doctors first recognised and diagnosed Benjamin. It is where Benjamin receives his intrathecal chemotherapy, where the nurses look after him every time he has a temperature spike. The base from which the nurses come out each week to visit Benjamin at home. It is where the play specialists play with Benjamin, and Emilia, when they are both feeling down or just simply in for a days treatment (sometimes hard to get Benjamin out of the playroom!) The Emily Kent Unit is a place where myself and Suzanne feel safe, and we thought it was about time we gave something back.
After Suzanne and her teams swim last year, I thought I would get involved the only way I know how, running! I have competed in the Cheltenham Half before, but this time there is a twist. Benjamin loves Disney Cars, the third installment was released just as he was diagnosed. Therefore, myself and the rest of Team Benjamin 'The Run' will all be dressed up as Cars Characters. Should be quite a sight on the streets of Cheltenham. The team is made up of all running abilities, so we are not looking for fantastic times, but to raise money for The Emily Kent Unit, which serves all Children Cancer patients in Gloucestershire.
