We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

As twins, Rich and I grew up doing everything together; causing mischief and having fun wherever we went.  For the last couple of years we had been talking about another big adventure for our fortieth birthday - we wanted to go skydiving! Rich had been diagnosed with Diabetes as a fourteen year old, so we agreed we would also raise some money for Diabetes UK in the process.

Having seen Rich struggle with his diabetes over the years and how much difference it made when his illness was under control, I can attest to how vital the work Diabetes UK do is.  Without their research, patients would be without life changing and life saving treatments.  Their care and support ensures people feel less daunted and their advice helps people to manage their Diabetes as well as they can.

Richard passed away suddenly in February 2018, leaving a massive hole in our family. It's been incredibly difficult for all of us to deal with over the past few months, then in August I celebrated the first birthday of my life without Rich sharing it.  This reminded me of our grand skydive plans and although it won't be the same, I decided I would keep that promise.  The more I thought about it, the more the thought of a proper challenge grew and grew and I wanted to do something bigger.

That's when the idea of Thirty Six in 36 was born.  Rich was 36 years old when he died.  It is 36 months until our fortieth birthday and the skydive event we'd planned.  So in those 36 months, I will be completing one challenge a month in memory of Rich, finishing up with a charity skydive.  I'll be doing runs, ultra-marathon walks, swimming, kayaking, climbing...you name it, I'm doing it.  In fact - do name it - all suggestions welcome! I will also be roping in friends and family to help me out, so you may see some guest stars appearing on this page.

The aim is to raise as much money as possible along the way, as well as remembering Rich and having fun in his name.  I will keep you updated with my events on this page and I'm so grateful for your support.
