Story

St Peter's Hospice is Bristol's ONLY adult hospice caring for local people with life-limiting illnesses. Our commitment is to improve the quality of life of patients while extending care and support to their families and loved ones. All of our care is provided free of charge, but it costs us around £20,000 a day to provide that care. For most of this money we rely on Gifts in Wills, donations, fundraising and our shop

I am completing this challenge with my fiend Serina, a hospice nurse at brentry in Bristol.  To me she is a true inspiration.

I rrecently received a letter through the post from the hospice from a Mr Keith Grimshaw from Emerson’s Green asking for support for Saint Peter’s hospice by purchasing  Christmas raffle tickets.  After reading the letter I was reduced to tears hearing his story about the loss of his beautiful wife to cancer of the spine which had spread from her stomach.  Jane was only 37 and her daughter was only 2 at the time.  Keith said Jane was admitted to the hospice in November whereby the staff on the inpatient unit managed to get her pain under control meaning she could spend her last Christmas and new year at home.  The hospice’’s community nurses came to visit Jane and look after her.

Shortly after the new year jane’s pain got worse and Keith wanted Jane to be comfortable and pain free so Jane returned to the hospice.   Under the care of the hospice Jane was able to have proper conversations and spent the next few weeks surrounded by her family and friends before she passed away on January 29.  Keith was able to spend time with Jane once she had passed and gave her a kiss, held her hand, spoke to her and told her how much he loved her.

Keith said the hospice gave Jane, himself and family such incredible care and attention.

My wish is to raise as much money as possible for families like Keith Jane and Chloe xx
