Dr Guy Jordan - dear friend, loyal brother and son, talented and caring doctor and a true gentleman. He had a boundless zest for life. In his 41 years on this Earth, albeit a shorter time than he deserved, he left a universally positive mark on his family, friends, colleagues and patients.

On November 20th 2013, Guy was killed in a cycling accident. Quite extraordinary attempts to save his life ensued at Frenchay Hospital over the following 16 hours, but his injuries were tragically too severe and he died on his own Intensive Care Unit, cared for by colleagues and friends.

Guy was responsible for planning and designing the state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit at the trust’s new Southmead Hospital, from which all the residents of Bristol now benefit. Throughout his career he had touched the lives of so many patients and relatives, going through what he and his own family would ultimately have to face. His love, care and empathy for the families of dying patients in intensive care was one of his greatest strengths as a doctor.

Guy's death leaves his family and friends trying to come to terms with the enormity of what has happened. It helps us to know that had there been any chance of survival, he would have done so, due to the outstanding care he received from his colleagues at North Bristol NHS trust and the Severn Trauma Network. It really was the NHS at its best. To treat someone so close, required the utmost professionalism on the part of everyone involved, from the air ambulance crew and Emergency Department, to the surgeons, anaesthetic staff, porters and his own Intensive Care staff.

We now feel we owe it to Guy, to his wonderful colleagues and to their future patients to raise money to help patients and their relatives in similar situations in the future.

2014 has seen the birth of the Guy Jordan Memorial Fund (under the umbrella of Southmead Hospital Charity). This year, the charity will provide funds to enable families of victims of major trauma in the Southwest to have free access to bereavement counselling and support. 

On April 26th 2015 Guy's brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Mel, will be donning their lycra (hopefully by that point looking slightly more slimline and toned!) and attempting to run (shuffle/walk/crawl, whatever is required...) the 26miles and all important 385 yards that is the London Marathon!  We would so greatly appreciate you sponsorship for this very worthy cause.  Please do not let those bitter cold nights of training throughout the winter go unrewarded!   THANKYOU!!!!
