I am raising funds for Approach in memory of my mum, Marjorie Baines who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and Vascular Dementia. Along with my dad, I helped care for her my much loved Mum for 5 years until she sadly passed away in April 2018.

I am now embarking on a huge challenge to raise vital funds for Approach- a local dementia support charity who can provide support and advice to anyone affected by dementia in Staffordshire.

We had so much help and support during Mum's time with dementia and I would love the opportunity to give back by raising money to help other people who are living with dementia. I’ve seen the support and care that Approach gives to local families and it’s nothing short of amazing. Helping them carry on doing this work will be the most incredible privilege.

On 17^th September 2019, I will depart from Manchester airport and will arrive in Bilbao early evening, before taking a train to Irun to begin my trek the following morning. 

I have been in training to prepare for myself for six weeks of walking along the picturesque Spanish Coast by spending long days in The Roaches, walking along The Staffordshire Way, The Pembrokeshire Coastline and The Peak District. 

A few months ago, I was suffering with a historic knee injury which was making walking incredibly difficult and painful.

After finally receiving a diagnosis of osteoarthritis, countless physiotherapy sessions and the go ahead from my GP, I am more determined than ever to take on this challenge.

I was dreading hearing the diagnosis, but I was so relieved to find out it would still be possible for me to walk the Camino. I’ve had some great physio sessions and water aerobics classes and I now feel confident I will be able to complete the walk. I know I just need to listen to my body and take my time.
