Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. A friend and work colleage - Margaret Stitt - who is dearly missed - passed away some months ago from cancer. Ourselves - Michael Camplisson and Colin Sullivan - are planning to abseil down the cliffs of Ramore Head on 21 Sept to raise funds for Marie Curie, in memory of Margaret.
As part of wider Universal Credit fundraising efforts in memory of Margaret Stitt - Colin Sullivan and I recently did an abseil off the cliffs at Ramore Head, Portrush.
Earlier that week it had been stormy, but we were lucky with the weather.
We arrived and were met by the Marie Curie team and the instructors. We quickly got kitted out. As we walked up towards the cliff edge, we began to steel our nerves for what lay ahead. Colin’s grip on the safety fence, and my nervous smile, betrayed slight fear on both our parts!
The view from the top was unbelievable, with views towards Magilligan and Donegal.
There were 2 sets of lines, allowing 2 people to go down simultaneously. Out of a group of 20, Colin and I went last.
Starting off and leaning back was the hardest part.
Going down was straightforward. Despite nearly turning into a race, we made it down safely!
We landed on the rocks at the bottom, and were greeted by large waves crashing in, over the rocks.
The final twist was that we then had to climb back up to the top, over the rocks.
All in all, it was a great day in memory of a super lady.
Colin and I would like to thank everyone for their really generous donations.
