Michael Pitt in WW1 Cycle for Landmine Charity MAG

Pearson Hinchliffe Commercial Law partner, Michael Pitt, is taking part in a 312 km sponsored bike ride in aid of land mine clearance charity, The Mines Advisory Group.

Linking the World War I battlefields and beginning on July 14th, the ride will go through the to the finish at Ypres in on July 18th.

Michael explained why he is taking part in the ride: “Every day 15 people are killed or maimed by a landmine explosion. It has brought it home to me when I have seen some of our troops coming back from with terrible injuries; but also when photographs of injured innocent children are published in the media.”

He said: “I have four children and the thought of any of them suffering such injuries just makes me want to do something. I'm sure I can put up with a little discomfort and effort to raise some money for such a worthy cause as land mines clearance.”

Michael, whose fundraising efforts have already started in earnest, must raise a preliminary target of £1120 by 24 April in order to be able to take part in July when his total target must be £1,650. He just wants to raise as much as he can, and he will donate his own money to make it worthwhile.

About the charity

Every single day, 15 people are killed or injured because of landmines and other explosive weapons. Half of all civilian casualties are children. MAG finds and destroys these weapons to save lives and rebuild futures; helping people to grow crops, attend school and build homes.
