Over the next week we will be embarking on the first 100 miles of Wainwright’s coast to coast walk. The full walk takes you from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire, a distance of just under 200 miles.  We plan to undertake the first half of the walk between the 2^nd and 9^th June finishing at Keld and then complete the second stage between the 2^nd and 8^th of September.

To encourage us to complete the walk, we’d like to ask you to help us raise money for Saint Leonard’s Hospice in York.  Just over 3 years ago my oldest friend, Tom Jackson, passed away a few weeks before his 50^th birthday – we had known each other since we were at infant’s school.  A year earlier, Tom had been diagnosed with bowel cancer, but unfortunately it was caught too late.  Growing up, Tom and I enjoyed many walks in the Yorkshire Dales around Reeth, and I know he would have liked to join me on this walk.

During the last weeks of his life, Tom was cared for at St Leonard’s Hospice.  I was very impressed with the peaceful and caring environment at St Leonard’s and the dedicated staff there, who made Tom as comfortable as possible and provided a dignified end to his life.

Like all charities St Leonard’s relies heavily on fundraising and charitable donations in order to operate.  We are sure they would be very grateful for any donation you are able to offer.
