To summarise John in one word - LEGEND.

John was incredibly loving, caring, intelligent, witty, articulate, and altruistic. He had a wicked sense of humour, mischievous, funny and loved joking around. He was very popular and loved by all those that knew him. John lived life to the full. 

John had many hobbies and interests. His main hobby was clay-pigeon shooting. He strutted around in his tweed cap when he wasn't shooting! John loved Premiership football and was a passionate Manchester City fan. He was a rugby union fan and followed Sale Sharks. In addition, John loved the annual Tour de France and Wimbledon. Despite being very poorly in his last few days of life, he found the energy to tell me off for not keeping him updated with the Tour de France and Wimbledon in the great detail that he wanted! 

At home, John was a talented cook. He would plan our meals meticulously. Only the best was acceptable for John. I wasn't allowed in the kitchen - and when I could get a peek, it was amazing watching his enthusiasm and multi-tasking. He was also a massive foodie and enjoyed fine dining. 

John was very sociable and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the local pub. He was renowned for his talent in darts and pool, but John's outstanding artistry was his ability to outdrink all his friends! 

John is going to be profoundly missed by all those that knew him. 

My beloved husband John fought a long hard battle with myelofibrosis/AML. He was diagnosed with myelofibrosis last summer (2014). Initially, he was put on treatment to slow the progression of the disease. However, just before Christmas, his symptoms worsened and there were early signs of AML. The hunt for a suitable donor was commenced with the help of the Anthony Nolan charity. Fortunately, John's symptoms were stable enough so that we could go on holiday to Tromso in Norway. John had always wanted to go to Scandinavia. We had a wonderful time and I will forevermore treasure these memories. We did not think that this would be our last holiday ever. 

John was lucky to find a suitably matched stem cell donor to treat his condition. On 4th February 2015, he received a stem cell transplant. All was looking promising until he developed horrendous complications. He was courageous and battled through the long hospital stay. Despite the excellent medical care and his determination to get overcome this, he lost his fight for life at 04:48 hours on 13th July 2015. 

John was grateful that he had been given the chance of receiving the stem cell transplant. This would not have been possible without Anthony Nolan. John had always said that he wanted to do a fundraising event and raise money in aid of Anthony Nolan had he survived. However, I'm sure he would be proud that his family and friends are all pulling together to comply with his wishes to say "thank you" to the Anthony Nolan charity.
