Story
On the second day of lockdown, we lost our amazing Nanny Miller after a short but heartbreaking battle with liver cancer. Nan was a true matriarch, a formidable woman, with a generous heart and a strong sense of what was right.
Nan loved children and was "very proud" of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Before retiring, she worked as a teaching assistant at Stanley Special School on Wirral and was determined that every child should have the best start in life.
For many years Nan made and donated shoe boxes to the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Appeal. All year round she would buy dolls from local charity shops, clean them up and knit them pretty dresses to include them in the boxes. We didn't get off lightly either, with her children and grandchildren being called on to donate toothpaste, toothbrushes and anything we could spare to ensure children in need received a gift at Christmas.
Nan won't be here to make the boxes this year, but we are hoping her memory can raise a few pounds to support the charity's continued work. With this in mind, 20 of her family will be running a two-team lap race to complete a marathon each on Monday 25th May 2020. Among us there are runners, joggers and walkers who are determined to go the distance to make Nanny Miller very proud.
