Story
Hello!
This summer I will be going to Kenya with a group of students from Durham University, for five weeks. This expedition has two main aims: To teach in schools around the small town of Narok and to fund the construction of a water supply for 8,000 people. Half the money raised will go directly towards Dig Deep and the water project, and half the money will go towards basic costs of the trip so that we are able to go out to Kenya and really make a difference in this community.
1. To teach in schools around Narok, in the West of Kenya. We will be teaching in schools in a very remote area, in partnership with World Concern (http://www.worldconcern.org) who run the schools, as well as local community leader Agnes Pareyio (UN Woman of the Year, 2005) in order to ensure that our skills really benefit the community. This is the first year this expedition has been run and hopefully it will be built upon year after year and a sustainable project will be created.
2. To fund the construction of a water supply for 8,000 people. We are raising money for the charity Dig Deep (http://digdeep.org.uk/) in order to fund the construction of a bore hole and wind pump, just to the North of the Masai Mara, which will address the chronic need for water experienced by the 8,000 local inhabitants. This is a unique opportunity and an incredibly worthwhile fundraising project as all money raised goes directly towards the projects because Dig Deep volunteers take no expenses from the charity. Whilst we are there we will visit the project and see where all the money raised has gone.
I will be doing various things to fundraise including rag raids and cake sales and will keep people informed of any fundraising events. All contributions will help to make a huge difference in this really deprived area, will help to change lives and will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
