Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This is a chance to turn our love of the outdoors into an opportunity to support the superb work of the brave and dedicated men and women of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue team. Twenty years ago, our great friend and university coursemate, Nicholas 'Nich Noch' Porter came back up to see us during his year in industry while a student at UMIST, and joined in on a hike in Snowdonia.

It was Sunday 1st October 1995. There are many routes up the mountain, but he had chosen to go up Crib Goch via Crib y Ddysgyll and unfortunately got into difficulty, ultimately losing his grip and falling several hundred feet.

He was recovered from the mountain by the amazing Llanberis Mountain Rescue team, and though he was rushed to hospital in Bangor, his head trauma was too extensive and he died the next day.

Our memories of him are of a young man, doing the things he loved with a great future ahead of him and as his university mates, we have regularly got together over the years having a memorial meal. This year, 20 years on, we wanted to give something back.

One event we have in mind is running in a half marathon in the week before our get-together. The Barns Green Half Marathon on Sunday September 27. Anyone who would like to join us may.

Anyone who is not into running or for whom Sussex is a long way away (!) but would like to do something to support LMRT, please by all means use this page as a link. What you do is up to you, though some kind of outdoor activity seems appropriate.

PS I have recently seen these excellent volunteers are accompanied by an awesome dog called Cluanie. See picture in my gallery and if you would like to know more, why not like their page.
