Story
When my great friend Paul needed a team for his Arch2Arc challenge, naturally I agreed to support him. To be honest, I am pretty good at this endurance support crew malarkey.
I’m your back-up guy. I’m your trusted bike mechanic. I make a mean marmite sandwich. I know when you need coke vs coffee, or a bowl of cornflakes. I’ll even jog half way round town to get you a post-Ironman kebab (yes, I did that). In fact, I’m so good at being a wingman, even Goose would be proud. I’ve never wanted to be Maverick. Well, I did once. But that was a fancy dress.
In short: I’m your premier, A-Team level of support crew. SUPPORT CREW. I don’t DO the big, shiny stuff: the Ironman races and the ultra marathons. It’s not what I do. But I did get a bit too close to it all supporting Paul in his double Ironman and then his triple. He knew I could stay awake for days on end, on a flask of the black stuff and a Pot Noodle.
So when Paul called about his huge Arch2Arc challenge this summer, he knew I’d be there to support him. I always would. But then it turned out he didn’t want support. He was after a team. And it was suddenly looking like I’d need to perfect my cheesy bar singing and slow motion beach volleyball. Oh and my blog writing. And my fundraising. I’m no longer the support crew.
Myself and Kelly are joining Paul’s Enduroman team to support a great friend and one of the nicest men you’ll ever meet. Please help me to support Paul by donating.
We’re raising funds for the hospice where Paul’s mum spent her final days before she passed away last year. Please help us reach our huge target of £20,000.
