Story
In April I will be running the London Marathon on behalf of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
You may think that I have chosen to support Guide Dogs because of my love of dogs, and you would in part be right, as I get to spend a day at the training centre in recognition of my sponsorship! There are no doubt many worthy charities which support research into life-threatening diseases, and you may feel that one of these charities would have been a more worthy cause. However, I believe that quality of life is as important as cures for illness and disease. To lose one’s sight, or to be born blind and be denied the ability to see everything around us, must be an appalling disability to live with. Guide Dogs offers a better quality of life for blind people, enabling them to remain mobile and independent, as well as providing them with a loving companion. During my training I will be running hundreds of miles, including 2 half marathons, and most probably I will be losing my toe-nails, so please, please sponsor me anything you can and make all the pain worthwhile. Please remember to gift-aid your donation if you are a tax-payer, so that the charity can claim back the tax.
