Story
On the 15th of March 2021, my brother Sam should have turned 30. On the 13th of March, I will run a marathon around north London in his memory - wish me luck!
Over this past year, I can't help but try to think what Sam might have made of all this craziness around the world. I'm sure many lengthy debates would've been had with friends and family, really eating into that 40 minute Zoom allowance.
I also believe he would have not sat back and let the year go by without taking action. During his life, he supported many charities through personal donations, and I know that this year he would've done something for others.
Because he can't... I am. Running a marathon is no easy feat, and I can't say I am particularly prepared, but I will be. As I step out on these cold winter mornings to train, I remember him saying 'Be Bold, Start Cold', and I don my shorts and power through.
I have chosen Place2Be because it is where our interests cross over. I currently work in a charity supporting young people in schools develop important skills like confidence and resilience. I am witnessing first hand the huge impact the Covid-19 pandemic is having on young people. Sam cared deeply about mental health issues, giving generously during his life. Our two causes meet with Place2Be who improve children's mental health in school.
I will be running on Saturday 13th of March, and I hope on this day you will join me in doing some form of activity to remember Sam. Whatever takes your fancy! You can let me know what you are up too on oliver.carr27@gmail.com - I'd love to hear about it!
We are also fundraising for Scottish Mountain Rescue, which you can see on his remembrance page. If you would prefer to donate here, please do. Any donation is important!
