In lieu of any birthday presents or drinks you may very generously have brought me for my 'dreaded' 40th birthday I would really appreciate a donation to Victoria's promise instead. I know it's not a charity very well known to you all but it's one that has recently become very close to my heart.

Many of you know my lovely best friend of 30 years was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer last year.  The charity - Victoria's Promise offered her priceless support throughout her journey, support I couldn't, no matter how hard I tried to understand and help.  

Throughout this past year I have wanted to help the charity to thank them for what they have done when I often felt helpless. The best way possible I can think of is to donate my 40th birthday presents. It also takes my mind off turning 40 and that there is a positive in being able to give back ;-)

To give you an example of some of the services they offer: an hour with a specialist beauty therapist for a massage to help with aches and pains during cancer treatment is £35. An hour of counselling is £45 so if this pledge raises £600 it could cover 12 ladies to have a counselling session not seen as a necessity through the NHS. Victoria's Promise offer all kinds of practical, emotional and spiritual support to make chemotherapy and dealing with cancer remotely bearable. 

Thank you for any donation you make! Please please don't buy me any pressies - this is the best gift I could wish for to help others and have my best friend get through the last year with the help of Victoria's Promise.  

I know January is a terrible month, no donation is too small, my page will run until I hit the target or I will make up the difference.
