New Milton Community First Responders are unpaid volunteers, who are trained to attend emergency calls received by the ambulance service and provide care until the ambulance arrives.

First Responders provide support to the regular Ambulance Service by attending serious and life threatening 999 calls in and around the community.  Community Responders provide the earliest possible intervention for patients young and old in the first few minutes until the arrival of an Ambulance.

The ambulance service dispatcher is able to send Community First Responders (CFR) to a range of incidents including; Strokes, heart attacks, breathing problems, unresponsive patients, diabetic emergencies,, burns, seizures and cardiac arrests.

CFR's are dispatched at the same time as the ambulance crews but because they are often in more rural areas can often arrive before the ambulance. In cases of cardiac arrest it has been identified that the chance of a positive outcome reduces by approximately 10% for every minute that effective CPR and defibrillation is delayed. This is why the Community Responders are vital for our local community.

All equipment that is used to provide this life saving care is bought with funds we raise, so our fundraising will be ongoing to ensure we provide as high a standard of care as possible. We are currently raising funds for life saving equipment, so we can fund the telecommunication equipment, which is needed for the group to be able to respond.
