Story

On Saturday 17th July...

13 Keen walkers and hikers from LPT gym(plus 2 out of towners) in Kettering have teamed up to support The Laura Centre A fantastic local charity that supports families suffering from parent and child bearevments.

Carrying out a daring or maybe a bit crazy trek over The Yorkshire Three Peaks the route is 24 miles (38.6km), and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours.

Are we crazy?? Well during the training we are starting to wonder!!

But focussed on this trek.. Hannah,Julie, Allen, Olivia, Katy, Matt, Meghan, Simon, Sam, Ahmed, Alan, Kev, Nathan and Phil are determined as ever to set themselves this challenge while supporting a fantastic cause..

Setting out to support a worthwhile charity by the group discussions took place but when one of the members Phil mentioned that had been supported by the Laura Centre for the last 2 and a half years,  it seemed fitting to support one of our members and also a local charity.

Phil explains in his own words why is so important to be able to support a Charity like the Laura Centre..

On the 5th July 2018 our beautiful little boy Max sadly passed away during delivery..

Struggling through the aftermath at the hardest and lowest point in mine and my wife’s life, the Laura Centre was there to help find a way through this turmoil and help us come to terms with what had happened..

I’ve never made this public and find it very hard to get this down in writing, but I wanted to raise awareness for this fantastic charity, a safe place for us and other families,a place where we can pick up the phone to and seek help when needed..

Our little boy had passed away And our hearts ripped out, we were left in this fog.. How could we be left with this beautiful stunning boy perfect in every way but sadly not with us..

The pain of coming home without our little boy, the pain of telling everyone made worse by the fact they thought you were ringing to give them good news.. Dealing with everything else, the pain, the anger, watching your wife go through this, supporting each other and explaining to our two boys it seemed to be never ending.. Returning  to work and everyone not sure what to say.. we tried to reach for help, various support groups, but we were lost, no one seemed able to cope with the help we needed..

Our bereavement midwife put us in touch with the Laura Centre, setup to support families who had sadly lost their children or supporting children that had lost their parents..

We in all honestly didn’t know what to do; didn’t know how to get things back to normal, but through time and support, through face to face counselling the Laura Centre helped us make sense of our feelings and how to cope..

We were both battling to manage, but at times coping with just our own battles, then also worrying about each other,  but the Laura centre was great at bringing us together and helping us communicate, and helping us move forwards

It all feels like yesterday and it’s still hard, but the Laura Centre  is always there, always welcoming and so important to a lot of families and children out there that need help

This is why raising needed funds to support families and children is a must..

Please help the Lpt gang in their endeavours and help a fantastic charity like the Laura Centre to go on and support more families in the future..

Losing a child or parent is a devastating event and one that cannot be imagined. The Laura Centre is here to help people through that period but The Laura Centres support depends on your support. By raising funds for us you will help us to help those experiencing an incredibly traumatic time in their lives.By supporting a fundraising initiative you will be helping those in need
