Story

How to start?!! Well firstly thank you for visting my page, perhaps I should ask you all to dig deep in your pockets and donate but if I am honest I don't care how much you wish to donate I just appreciate it if you did, any amount will help.

It says to tell your story here and for me thats the hard part, running 10k will be a breeze in comparison (and for someone like me that truly says a lot!!). But my story starts July 2012, my mum, my brother and myself had gone on holiday to my dad's homeland, Scotland. My brother hadn't felt completely 100% for a while and on holiday he was beginning to feel worse, very tired and not 'quite right'. He suffered with MS so we were unsure if it was this taking another turn but no. The holiday ended and we travelled back to Philip's home in Preston, where that day his breathing became laboured and he was very tired indeed. We took him into A&E that evening where he was diagnosed with leukaemia, a rare form and very aggressive. He was transferred to Blackpool hospital within 12 hours and there it was explained to us that they had to give him treatment immediately, if not he wouldn't be with us in 48 hours time. However the alternative with the treatment was a slim to nil chance of survival. Philip bravely took the chance. We had a short time with him before he was put under anaesthetic for the treatment to begin and then we sat with him whilst the drugs were given to him. He fought hard and very bravely but he passed away that evening.

Philip was 40 years old and as many have heard me say, he was my past, my present and he should have been my future too. Donating any amount, pennies, will help. It would help research to stop this poisionous disease or it may just help one person to survive it. Anything to try and prevent one other family feeling the devastating loss of someone so loved to them is worth the change that may be in our pockets. I hope you have the kindness to donate and I thank those that do.

Thank you for the time you have taken to read this, and from the words of my big bruv if you donate - Remember if you are under 65 and earn over £7475 then tick Gift Aid, if you do then the lovely Taxman will top up your donation!

Roll on July 14! British 10k here I come! I may be last in, but I will be taking part! Here's to you Philip R Smart! Love you lots x
