Story
Our friend Liam Connell has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma at Worthing hospital. This diagnosis was delayed for many weeks due to cancelled appointments for scans due to the high demand on hospital equipment. The wait caused great anxiety.
Worthing hospital currently houses one CT Scanner which is in extremely high usage, and the number of patients requiring scans increases each year. The CT Scanner Appeal aims to raise enough money to fund a second Scanner to reduce the waiting time for cancer and trauma patients, speeding up diagnosis and treatment.
Liam is 70 years old and was very fit, he completed a Lands End to John O’Groats cycle in 2011. He has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity within his lifetime, supporting many causes by organising sponsored bike rides across the UK and throughout Europe.
Initially, we had planned to join Liam on a cycle across Normandy in support of the CT Scanner Appeal. However, due to recent extension to his Chemotherapy and diminishing health, this has not been possible and Liam won’t be taking part. We’ll now be riding 280 miles on his behalf, from Cuckfield to Tywardreath in Cornwall to raise funds. We’ll be leaving on the 25th of July and will travel via Littlehampton (Liam’s home) and Worthing hospital, returning home on the 28th.
Fund-raising for the £1 million scanner has been going well, although the Friends of Worthing Hospital are still short of £200 thousand. Any contributions will be hugely appreciated, and will genuinely contribute to the treatment of cancer and trauma patients in Sussex. All donations will go 100% to the charity as all expenses will be paid by us.
Thank you for your support!
