We support young adults living with cancer to rebuild their lives after a diagnosis

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October for Shine Cancer Support.  The half marathon takes in four of London's eight Royal Parks - Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens and starts on The Mall.  There will be 16,000 other runners taking part on the day.  2 weeks prior to that I will be running my local Stafford 10k.

As some of you may know, my wife Kathryn was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer following a 7 day illness in autumn 2018.  She had lifesaving surgery to remove a tumour that was completely blocking her bowel, following which she was given a stoma.

In the time since then she has gone through a hell of a lot living with the disease, having 7 operations (to remove part of her liver as well as part of her lungs) and 3 separate periods of chemotherapy.

Following 2 weeks of chronic neck pain in August 22 she was admitted to Katharine House Hospice in Stafford where they offered to manage the pain.  They have done an amazing job doing this however following a CT scan she found out that the cancer has spread to her spine and brain.  On 8th Sept she had 2 X operations to remove a tumour from her brain.  She is currently recovering at Katharine House Hospice in Stafford.

Throughout her ordeal Shine Cancer Support have been incredible.  Many of you won't be aware of their work and that's understandable given the space taken up by various cancer charities in this area.  They work to provide support for young adults in their 20s, 30s & 40s who are affected by cancer, an often forgotten about demographic.

They arrange network events, Facebook groups, programmes, online clubs, talks & workshops, not only for those directly affected, but those close by as well.  These have been very much needed over the last few years as we have battled Covid and I have seen at first hand the great work they have done, and in supporting Kathryn.

If there is anything you can donate we would be very appreciative of it to help this very worthy cause.  Thank you for your time.

Shine supports adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis. Too old for children and teenage services but too young for traditional cancer support, we support the people who fall into a devastating cancer support gap.
