Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have now completed my Arctic Husky Challenge. The event was not a tame visit Santa sled ride. we completed 250km across the spine of Northern Scandinavia/Lapland between the 29th and 5th April 2014. On the challenge we encountered overnight temperatures below minus 20, sleeping in tents, snow storms with visibility of less than a few feet and a really punishing schedule for both us humans and the dogs. I even donated blood on a particularly nasty spill that nearly had me and the dogs in a frozen river which could have been fatal. see the blog and photos at http://richardsarcticchallenge.blogspot.co.uk/
My Mother Glenyse died suddenly from a heart failure on the 30th December last year. She had a heart irregularity since her teens but managed to reach the good age of 81. Even though, her sudden death was a shock to me and my family.
We had been helping her plan a cruise to see the northern lights the day that she died. So when I decided I wanted to do something beyond the usual fund raising events I was amazed to find a challenge to drive a team of Huskys across the Arctic to raise funds for British Heart Foundation and given the plans we were making it seemed the most appropriate thing I could do to raise as much as I can to support BHF helping prevent Heart disease and supporting those who suffer from it.
So please dig deep and donate now.
