I'm Richard and am currently living alone in a Norfolk village in lock down like everyone else. I'll never be naturally bald - thanks to inherited genes I've always been blessed with a full head of hair since birth! That is about to change and for the first time in my life, I'm going to go bald with a full head shave :-)
Why? I am raising money for BCUK in memory of my Auntie. She was the eldest of three children born and raised in Northumberland, met a GI, married and moved to the USA in the 1950's when in her early 20's. She embraced the lifestyle and diet of suburban New York for over a quarter of a century, even taking a taxi to go less than a mile to the local store, rather than walking. When she reached 50 she had a lumpectomy, followed by a mastectomy a year or so later. Within 4 years cancer had spread to her liver and she died at just 55.
My vegetarian teetotal mum is in her 80's, has regular exercise and never smoked a day in her life. I wonder if my Auntie would still be with us had she been more aware of the various risk factors that BCUK is raising awareness of. She would have been 89 this year.
Please help support the work that BCUK is doing - if we can all do our bit, step up and make a difference, charities like BCUK will still be here to help your Aunties, Sisters, Mums and Daughters for years to come.
With a bit of luck, the hair will grow back, so please sponsor my head shave :-)
Thank you all in advance and if by some miracle I raise my target please keep donating, as every penny counts towards vital research into the reduction of Breast Cancer risk.
