Story
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Why The Brain Tumour Charity?
On 17th April 2013 a good friend of mine sadly passed away. Paul Ware. I'd known Paul since we were kids growing up in the same village, always playing sport, always competing, riding bikes together. Paul became a well loved, well respected professional footballer, making 115 appearances for Stoke CIty and 54 appearances for Stockport County. In 2012, Paul was diagnosed with brain cancer. When he died in 2013, he was just 42 years old.
A few years earlier, i lost my Uncle Steve to a brain tumour. He was another great man.
A few years earlier, my Grandma also lost her life to a brain tumour. I never had the chance to meet her, but she was a great woman.
That's why i'm supporting The Brain Tumour Charity.
Why Ironman?
Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile open water swim, followed immediately by a 112 mile cycle followed immediately by a full 26.2 mile marathon.
It's a considerable physical and mental challenge. It's about dealing with pain, with fear, with fatigue. It's about commitment and about carrying on, when all your body wants to do... is just stop.
That's why i chose Ironman. The ultimate challenge.
However, it's nothing compared to the challenges faced by the 3 people above and to the thousands of others who have also suffered in similar ways.
The Brain Tumour Charity is the UK's largest dedicated brain tumour charity. They fund much needed scientific and clinical research into brain tumours and offer vital information and support services to those affected, whilst also raising awareness and influencing policy.
They do an amazing job.
