Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Cancer Research UK/Wokingham 1/2 Marathon JustGiving page.
I completed the Wokingham Half Marathon in 1:45:36 on February 21st.
As you may know, with under two weeks to go, I needed an extra incentive to put in the training (and finish the race) as I hadn't done a 1/2 Marathon for quite some time (well a few years, actually !!) before this one.....
So, I thought that raising money for a truly worthwhile Charity would be the ideal incentive and set up this page.
As a result, Cancer Research UK get greatly needed funds and I had the incentive I need. A true "Win-Win".
I'd set myself a target of £250 for this particular event and every donation prior to the event was crucial in giving me the motivation I needed. Every donation, no matter how small, helped me focus on my training and completing the race.
After one week of this page being active, thanks to the kindness of my sponsors, I'd reached 72% of my target and it was a great help in motivating me to brave the cold and get out and run.
Now, a few days after completing the race, which I could not have done without the incentive of the sponsorship for Cancer Research UK, I'm at ~140% of my target, which is fantastic, but please don't let that stop you from adding to it, the money is not for me but for Cancer Research UK, remember !
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Cancer Research UK and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for Cancer Research UK.
The money that's pledged helps Cancer Research UK enormously and I know they are very grateful.
So was I as, despite an injury that meant I did no training for the week preceding the race, I not only finished it but did so in a time I was delighted with !! Without the incentive of your sponsorship I would not even had made it to the Start Line, never mind the Finish Line.
So, on behalf of Cancer Research UK, and myself, Thank You.
Rob
