Thank you to everyone who sponsored me so generously for this event and to those who turned out on the day. Thank you also to Aldeburgh Golf Club for all their help. I had a great day and the pain was offset by all your support. I played 90 holes, hit 472 shots and walked 27 miles carrying a full set of clubs. I managed to reach my target of 130 points on the very last hole thanks to a dubious but miraculous bunker shot on the 89th hole. I am so grateful that we have raised so much money for St Helena's hospice in Colchester.  The appeal is to raise over £3m for the desperately needed expansion and modernisation of St Helena which helps people from all walks of life at their time of greatest need, often involving both physical pain and emotional suffering.

The population of Colchester and the surrounding area has expanded by 60% since St Helena was opened in 1985. More beds are urgently required to end the terribly sad situation of some people dying while waiting for a space at St Helena. The Capital Appeal will fund an increase of 5 rooms (30%) and the updating of the building to reflect better advances in clinical care, such as providing piped oxygen to every bed.
