Story

Caroline and Alan were Mum and Dad to Fiona Watters, Ross is married to Fi and Sarah is a good friend.

Written by Fi:

Cancer devastated my family in 2018, my Dad passed away in the Edinburgh Marie Curie hospice in April and my Mum passed away in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in June. Marie Curie cared for my Dad so well, they made us as at home as possible and the nurses were incredible. We are so thankful to them all. They also provided a nurse for my Mum who was always available to help, visited us weekly or more and looked after us. I cared for my Mum at home and our nurse would check how we were both doing, sort all the medications and help us with anything that needed done, even down to all the paperwork. I couldn't have coped without her guidance and care.

Since losing both my parents they continue to support me with monthly meetings where I can talk with other people who have lost loved ones and a one to one bereavement counsellor who I see once a month. They hold events such as a service in December each year called Lights to Remember which is a remembrance service among other events throughout the year. All of these things help keep my Mum and Dad's memory alive. It is the hardest, most painful thing i have ever gone through and Marie Curie are there to help me every step of the way and I am forever grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to support this great charity, any memories you have of my parents please feel free to share them.
