On the 12th of March 2021 at 6am I will be starting the 4x4x48 challenge. Running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours. A total of 48 miles in 48 hours, a challenge made famous by David Goggins.

I will be doing this to raise money and awareness for the charity NIKPA (Northern Ireland Kidney patients association).

This is a charity I hold close to my heart. My Granda had diabetes and was on dialysis for 11 years. Through his illness he ended up having to have multiple amputations of his limbs. As you could imagine this had both a physical and mental toll on him. He attended dialysis 3-4 times a week, for many hours a day, until he passed away in July 2017. Throughout his journey he was looked after so well by the dialysis staff in the Belfast City Hospital. So this is also for them in his memory.

NIKPA was set up by kidney patients for the benefit of kidney patients. They provide emotional and practical support to kidney patients and their families. As well as days out, helpful information on various renal studies and signposting to relevant resources. NIKPA rely solely on fundraising to continue to support all renal patients at every stage of their journey and treatment. Charities like NIKPA are so important in supporting people through some of the most difficult times of their lives and every penny helps.
