We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you know I'm partial to a little madness, well this all just got a little madder!! I was devastated in 2001 when, at 61, my Dad died of a brain tumour. To watch him suffer for 6 months is something that I can't even verbalise. It consumed his whole world. As we know the brain is the 'computer' for our every function from speaking to walking and finally breathing. To watch that 'computer' fail to load properly on a daily basis when you have no 'updates' to cure this virus is soul destroying.

I passionately believe in evolution but that requires us to adapt and have knowledge which comes from research, hence why I am raising funds for Brain Tumour Research. There must be more that we can do to alleviate the pain and suffering and the ultimate goal is a cure but this can only be done if those with fully functioning and very clever brains can be targeted to 'unpick' what nature has placed in the way.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. https://bit.ly/2vVGYUE

16,000 people diagnosed with a brain tumour every year

This disease has gone on to take some other very special people in my life:

Ivor Paul, Curtis Palmer, Angela Cowell and Linda Hawkins

which is why I had to get off my ass and do something and all that I can do is raise funds so that others can work their magic to ensure that this list of stunning individuals doesn't get any longer and I don't have to sit in another crematorium asking 'why'.

So on July 29th I will be joining 25,000 other cyclists to ride the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 https://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/

I know you're all being asked to donate to lots of very worthy causes but I'm going to ask you to be very generous once more and just donate £5 (more would be fab) .......listen that's less that the bottle of cheap wine you consume!!

I will keep you updated on my training progress as this is the toughest challenge to date but nothing compared to what my Dad and others had to face every day. Thank you from the bottom (which is already very sore!!) of my heart. A big thank you to Ed Pearce for the loan of the road bike.

And yes writing this has taken me straight back to 2001 and it hurts as much today as it did then xx
